Good evening fight fans! I'm David Esposto and welcome to theScore Live Blog's presentation of UFC 157: Rousey vs. Carmouche. History will be made tonight, as the first-ever women's bout takes place inside the Octagon as Ronda Rousey takes on Liz Carmouche for the UFC Woman's Bantamweight Championship.
This card also features a co-main event between Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida, with the winner all but likely to become the number one contender in the UFC's Light Heavyweight Division. There is even a Canadian on the card, as Ivan Menjivar takes on the California Kid Urijah Faber.
What fights are you all looking forward to most? Tune into all the action on theScore Live Blog!
@Joel: Welcome to the blog Joel! That fight should be an entertaining one, as both fighters have a lot to fight for. The Main Event, as cliche as it sounds, is the one I'm looking forward to most. I'm also interested in seeing the return of Robbie Lawler!
@Cruiser: Welcome Cruiser! I agree, that fight was nuts! From nearly being called by Herb Dean, to going the distance, what a back and forth scrap that was!
What makes the main event even more historic is the fact that Dana White, just last year, said that women would never compete in the UFC. How things have changed...
The first fight at UFC 157 will feature a welterweight battle between Josh Koscheck and Robbie Lawler. Lawler has some crazy power in his hands, especially with his left. Expect him to look for the knockout against the wrestler Koscheck.
@Cruiser: She's got one hell of a submission record and uses those skills to finish her fights. Don't much about Carmouche though, but Rousey's submission game is no joke.
Robbie Lawler making his way to the Octagon. When he first came onto the scene, many considered him to be the Mike Tyson of the UFC, and then he hit a rough patch. But he's back now, so let's see what he's got.
Josh Koscheck making his way to the Octagon, from the Ultimate Fighter season one! Good choice of entrance music - Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground.
Tale of the Tape: Koscheck v Lawler - Lawler one inch height and reach advantage. Everything else, identical.
Bruce Buffer with the introductions...
Round One: Koscheck v. Lawler
Herb Dean the referee.
Here we go!
Round One - 4:50: Koscheck goes for the takedown and gets it early on. He's got Lawler on his back now.
Round One - 4:00: Lawler gets back up to his feet, but Koscheck still has control of his head and arm here. Koscheck bleeding out of his nose too.
Round One - 3:20: Lawler using the butterflies to get Koscheck off of him, as he's using his hips to push up on Koscheck. Koscheck doing well to keep Lawler on lock down here, not allowing him to utilize his stand up game.
Round One - 2:00: Koscheck working for a third takedown in this round. He's got Lawler up against the fence here. Good strategy - taking away Lawler's power and tiring him out at the same time.
Round One - 1:20: Lawler lands the vicious knee... after he manages to get back up to his feet, he gets the advantage on Koscheck and starts to rain down punches, as Koscheck was still on his back.
AND THAT'S IT, IT'S OVER! LAWLER IS BACK! TKO at 3:57 of the First Round. You could say the stoppage was premature, but Lawler with a vicious ground and pound that Koscheck could not handle.
OFFICIAL DECISION: Robbie Lawler defeats Josh Koscheck in 3:57 of the first round. What a return for Lawler!
@Snook: Thanks for following along, Snook!
Up next: Court McGee v. Josh Neer - who ya got?
Court McGee has never been finished in his career. Could the Dentist Josh Neer change that?
@Lumberjack: Not a problem lumberjack! Perhaps you'll turn the lady into a fan with the main event!
Josh Neer making his way to the Octagon. To the tune of You Can't See Me by Tupac. Classic tune. This is Neer's 47th professional fight in MMA. Impressive, and just 29 to boot!
