What fight are you most excited to see tonight?
I was quite impressed with the prelims for tonight's card. Impressive knockout by UFC debutant Tyrone Woodley over Jay Hieron after just 36 seconds in round one. Has knockout of the night award written all over it. Will be interesting to see if anyone can top it.
I haven't been this excited for a UFC PPV card in a long time. Let's hope it lives up to the hype! How do you guys think this will all go down?
@Rocco: Welcome to the blog, Rocco! Thanks for tuning in, hope you'll stay tuned for the updates as the night progresses!
@kdog: You and me both Kdog! Can't wait for this card to begin! Starting off with the flyweights is sure to get the crowd going! What fight are you looking forward to most?
First fight of the night ready to go. Joseph Benavidez vs Ian McCall in the UFC's Flyweight Division. Who ya got?
McCall the first fighter to enter the Octagon. As for the entrance song he's coming out too, I'm not sure, folks. McCall has to have one of the strangest nicknames in the UFC, known as "Uncle Creepy".
Benavidez coming out next. His entrance music - Ted Nugent: Stranglehold. You can thank Joe Rogan for pointing that out.
Tale of the Tape: Benavidez v McCall. Benavidez with the slight reach advantage McCall with the slight height advantage. Bruce Buffer on the mic.
Steve Mazzagatti the referee for tonight's opening fight. And here we go!
@Jtoothman: I'm not sure. I tried to figure it out but couldn't. Sorry about that.
3:50 Round One: McCall lands a big kick to Benavidez's body. Both guys standing up and striking well. Benavidez catches McCall with a left hook to the face that caught McCall and stunned him.
3:00 Round One: Both fighters exchanging leg kicks. Benavidez then ducks under a right from McCall and lands a solid strike.
2:00 Round One: Benavidez looking really solid and crisp with his striking tonight. Benavidez in the southpaw position here, always tough for your opponent to deal with. McCall is being battered early on here.
1:15 Round One: McCall throws a right hand, but Benavidez counters in close with a right elbow. McCall starting to get into his rhythm now, but Benavidez has landed the majority of the strikes in this opening round. McCall doing better with his movement and alluding Benavidez.
Final ten seconds in round one. Benavidez takes this one, but McCall starting to get into the swing of things. Benavidez's corner telling him to chase the jabs here, that he's getting over anxious and to be patient here. Let's see what happens in the second round!
Round Two: Benavidez v McCall underway!
4: 10 Round Two: Benavidez bites down on his mouthpiece and charges McCall after his high front kick doesn't land. Frenetic pace to the early stages of round two.
3:20 Round Two: Benavidez bleeding from the forehead, it was checked out during the interval after round one, and nothing too serious, after he caught an head butt from McCall.
2:20 Round Two: Benavidez with a nice counter after McCall throws a kick. Benavidez counters with a solid right and left jab combo.
1:30 Round Two: McCall has the back of Benavidez and McCall is raining down the hammerfists now. McCall has the back of Benavidez now. The look of the fight has changed now, as McCall has Benavidez up against the cage.
Final ten seconds in round two. Big round for Uncle Creepy after that impressive ground and pound. Benavidez tried to take him down and McCall came over the top and caught him witha right hook, and then gets the back of his opponent. Significant damage done by McCall. Fight all knotted up at one round apiece. Round three will decide the winner, I think.
Round Three: Benavidez v McCall underway!
