Tune in at 9:00 AM ET on Friday for coverage of the second round of the Open Championship. Ryan Kelly will be liveblogging for your enjoyment.
Hello and welcome to ScoreMobile's ongoing coverage of the PGA Tour. Today we present second round coverage of the 141st Open Championship from Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club in England.
Adam Scott set the pace on the first day with a 6-under par round of 64 but has since been passed by Brandt Snedeker. Playing in the afternoon wave on Thursday, Snedeker fired a bogey-free round of 66 and remains bogey-free on day two as well. He's playing the 14th hole and is 6-under on his round today, moving the number to -10.
The weather seems to be cooperating so far, but aside from Snedeker nobody seems to be scoring well thus far. In fact, many players are going in the opposite direction. Take Nicolas Colsaerts for instance. After a solid 5-under 65 got him into a share of second yesterday, a 7-over round of 77 has dropped him to +2 for the championship, right on the cut line.
Par 4 14th - Snedeker has had a couple of issues off the tee today, but he seems to have missed so far left that he hasn't put his ball in trouble. He does that again, missing the fairway left but finding the area that has been trampled by the gallery. He then just barely carries a green-side bunker on his approach and watches his ball release to the back of the green with the hole cut toward the front.
Among those who have blown up today: Phil Mickelson. After making the best of a rough opening round to post a 3-over 73, a missed cut is all but assured for last year's co-runner up. He has three double bogeys, to go with two bogeys and only one birdie to sit at +7 on his round, +10 for the championship.
Par 4 14th - With his long birdie all the way back up the hill, Snedeker gives it a mighty lash and it's a beauty, leaving himself about 3-feet for par which he casually converts.
Par 3 1st - Zach Johnson gets his round started, hitting a quality tee shot that lands on the front portion of the green and settles pin-high about 20-feet left of the flag.
Par 4 18th - Rory McIlroy has had a rough day -- sitting at +5 on his round -- but he hits a beautiful approach to the home hole that gives him about 8-feet for birdie. If he converts that he'll move to +1 and should be safe to make the cut.
Par 4 15th - Snedeker using 3-wood off the tee splits the fairway, once again. Of course, this is playing as the second hardest hole today so he still has over 200 yards left to the flag.
McIlroy did miss that birdie at 18, but I can't imagine the cut moving to +1. If anything, it's far more likely to go the other way.
@Jeff Harris Right now, yes, +2. But with a lot of guys still to tee off in the afternoon, it could easily move to +3.
Par 3 1st - After controlling his distance well, Johnson takes advantage and cashes-in the birdie to move to -6.
Par 4 3rd - Adam Scott with a quality drive that over-drew just a touch and ends up in the first cut of rough on the left. It would have been nothing to worry about, except that he hit a poor second shot that finds the rough.
Par 4 15th - Somehow, with a group of divots around where his ball ended, Snedeker managed to miss them all. He did not take advantage though, making a really quick swing and losing it left off the green and finding some thick rough.
@sweetbrian05 In about 20 minutes.
Par 4 3rd - Scott was able to find his ball lying down in the thick rough and chops it out and onto the putting surface. He'll have a reasonable, but certainly still longer than he would have wanted, putt for par.
Par 4 15th - When things are going well, they're going really well. Not only does Snedeker hit a really good recovery shot, he nearly holed it from the fescue for a birdie. Still, a quality par after that loose second shot.
Par 4 4th - Lawrie's approach to the green finds the left side of the green, and with the pin cut on the right, he'll have a long birdie attempt.
Par 4 3rd - Scott gave his par attempt a good run, but it just ran out of speed and he'll fall back to -5.
Par 4 16th - Snedeker once again takes iron off the tee and finds the fairway. In a practice round earlier in the week, he took a driver on a second ball at this hole and ended up making a hole-in-one.
Par 4 2nd - Zach Johnson was looking for back-to-back opening birdies, but his second effort just tailed off at the end.
Par 3 5th - Lawrie with a wonderful tee shot that was on line the whole way and put a scare into the hole, but ended up rolling past by about 15-feet.
Par 4 4th - Scott narrowly avoids disaster. He's tee ball found the fescue and his approach just barely carried some more. He ends up just short of the green, needing to get up-and-down to avoid back-to-back dropped shots.
Par 4 16th - Snedeker quickly steps up and plays his approach, flighting an 8-iron low into the wind. It lands nearly pin-high, about 25-feet left of the cup.
Par 3 5th - Lawrie is able to take advantage of his good tee shot, converting the birdie putt to move to -6.
Par 4 16th - Upon further review, Snedeker's birdie putt was more like 35-feet and putting back up the hill he just never gave it enough speed. Good enough for a stress-free par though, and he'll head to 17.
Par 3 1st - Tiger Woods is now on the course and nearly jarred his tee shot on the fly. His ball mark can be no more than a foot past the hole. It ends up settles about 8-feet away and he'll have a good birdie chance.
Par 4 3rd - Zach Johnson is going to drop at least one shot here. His tee ball found the bunker on the left that everyone is trying to avoid and by the time he reached the green he had already played 4 shots. He's now about 15-feet away for his bogey.
Par 4 17th - Another iron off the tee for Snedeker and another fairway hit.
Par 3 1st - Woods over-read the break a bit on his birdie putt and he ends up leaving it out to the right.
Par 4 2nd - Woods with driver off the tee and he his a beauty cutting it back to the right side of the fairway.
Par 3 5th - Scott was slightly out of position, needing to hole a 12-footer for par to stay at -5, but he does so successfully.
Par 4 4th - Johnson is unable to get his bogey putt to go and he drops back to -4.
The projected cut has now moved to +3.
