Tune in at 3:00 PM ET for third round coverage of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Ryan Kelly will be liveblogging for your enjoyment.
Welcome to ScoreMobile's ongoing coverage of the PGA Tour. Today we present the third round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
The headline on day three of the competition is easy -- Tiger Woods.
After recording a bogey on Pebble Beach's 12th hole -- his third of the day -- Woods reeled off three straight birdies and after a stretch of 6 birdies in 8 holes, now finds himself in a share of second place, three shots behind Charlie Wi.
There are three courses in rotation this week: Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Monterey Peninsula CC.
Whereas most events cut after the 2nd round, with the pro-am portion there has not yet been a cut. So our leaders are not playing in order and together like normal. So we'll do our best to keep you informed about all those in contention.
Par 3 5th hole - Woods carves a 7-iron that lands just right of the pin located in the back-middle portion of the green. He'll have a decent look at a birdie after that.
As good as Tiger's tee-shot was -- and he has about 18-feet for birdie -- his amateur partner -- Cowboy's QB Tony Romo -- almost had a better result.
Nick Faldo just predicted that Tiger Woods will go on to win this tournament. His rationale: Tiger has been effectively playing with a left-to-right ball flight and that sets up well for Pebble Beach, where all competitors will play the final round tomorrow.
Par 3 5th - The birdie bid of Woods just slid by on the right side. He played just a fraction too much break.
If you're wondering about our leader, Charlie Wi has had only one top 10 on the PGA Tour in his last 32 starts.
It was a runner-up finish at last year's Crowne Plaza Invitational when he slept on the 54-hole lead, but lost to David Toms.
After starting out his day at Monterey Peninsula with back-to-back bogeys on his first two holes, Dustin Johnson has pulled back into the top 5. He currently sits at -10.
Another note on Wi. While he's best finish in this tournament was a T14 in 09, he did win the California State Amateur here....waaaaay back in 1990.
If you're thinking it's been a long time since you've seen Padraig Harrington's name near the top of a leaderboard, you're right.
Since winning back-to-back majors in the summer of 2008, Harrington has won only once worldwide -- on the Asian Tour in 2010.
By the way, a big part of Joseph Bramlett's scoring today came on one hole. Earlier, he holed his second shot from 183-yards at the par 5 11th -- his second hole of the day -- for an albatross.
Par 5 6th - Woods elects to use three-wood off the tee -- driver likely would have put him into the water -- and ends up on the right side, just off the fairway in the first cut of rough.
Joseph Bramlett now has a double-bogey to go with his albatross and he slips back to -9.
The wind seems to really be picking up out at Pebble Beach. Given the proximity between the three courses, I would think that would be the case for the other two courses as well.
Par 5 6th - Woods takes a 5-wood from 251-yards and tugs it a touch to the left. It ends up in the rough, right near the green-side bunker. The ball looked to be sitting up, so he should have a relatively simple pitch back over the bunker with plenty of green to work with.
Par 5 6th - Woods with a disappointing pitch, that comes up well short of where he would have wanted it. Seems he didn't make the contact he wanted. He'll have about 12-15 feet for birdie.
Worth noting: Since the Frys.com open last fall, Tiger Woods has fired in the 60s in 10 of his last 16 stroke play rounds.
In all 2011 tournaments prior to the Frys, he had 7 of 22 rounds in the 60s.
@Paul Pascal He's not quite first in scoring, since he's three behind the leader but I understand where you're coming from.
Par 5 6th - Woods could not salvage birdie after that pitch, as his effort slid by on the left. Probably a bit of a disappointing result for him.
Tiger will next go to one of the most iconic golf holes in the world -- the 7th at Pebble Beach. With the wind picking up, it could prove to be an interesting hole.
@Paul Pascal You are correct that he has the low round of the day going, but he's still not leading the tournament in scoring.
Par 3 7th - Woods pulls a sand wedge and carries it well past the flag and can't spin it enough to get it close.
@Paul Pascal I think even where he's at now and he has a reasonable shot of winning. Charlie Wi has never won on the PGA Tour and has a history of poor Sundays.
Charlie Wi has been at least the co-leader 10 times in his career and finished in the top 10 only 4 times.
Those stats are at the end of a round and include 5 1st round, 4 second round and 1 third round.
Of course the most recent second round lead came yesterday, so he still has a chance to finish this one off.
@Paul Pascal We can certainly agree on that point. He has moved himself into a good spot.
Par 3 7th - Woods aimed his putt out to the left and was hoping for the wind to push it back toward the hole, but it didn't break enough and he'll have to settle for another par.
Ken Duke, with three birdies in his last 5 holes, now moves into the three-way tie for second.
Another note on Wi: his opening round 61 was the 3rd he's fired such a score.
