NHL - Capitals @ Rangers
12:30 PM ET
- Tune in at 12:30 PM ET as the Capitals take on the Rangers. Craig Seward will be liveblogging for your enjoyment.
- Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Caps/Rangers live blog. To say the Rangers have re-discovered their mojo may be an understatement. They have won six of their last eight and are coming off yet another dominant victory over division rival Philadelphia.

- The Caps meanwhile are coming off a late game collapse at the hands of the Jets and continue to play the role of both Jeckyl and Hyde (4-3-4 over their last 11 games). Time for them to pick it up, as they currently sit 9th in the East and are in danger of missing the playoffs
- The Caps have their dads and mentors in tow for today’s game, so perhaps a little extra motivation for them in helping to right the ship.

- The teams have split the season series to this point. However, the Rangers have taken four of the last five regular season games against the Caps while outscoring them 22-8 in the process. Here’s how the teams line-up this afternoon:

CAPS
- Still no Backstrom for the Caps as he continues to recover from a concussion.

RANGERS
- Thanks to my trading him in my fantasy league, Ryan Callahan is red hot for NY, including a hat-trick yesterday against the Flyers. I, on the other hand...am an idiot.
- Starting Goalies: Michal Neuvirth (6-8-0, 3.05 GAA) vs. Henrik Lundqvist (24-10-4, 1.82 GAA)
- Neuvirth....really? Against the Rangers? .....wowby GirlonFire5285 via twitter 2/12/2012 5:37:07 PM
- Bit of a suprising start for Neuvirth today. Something wrong with Vokoun? THey have been off since Thursday. Hmmm...
- 19:55 Game just underway. Enjoy the blog everyone, and feel free to contribute throughout! These two are 3rd and 6th in the league respectively in blocked shots, so be prepared for a hard-fought defensive battle this afternoon.
- 19:35 Girardi takes an Ovie wrister right off the noggin! He seems to be OK, but goes off woosey. That looked dangerous. Even Ovie looked upset.

- Girardi gets a puck to the head, smiles, and stands up to skate off. #beast #warrior #NYRby UndeRadar via twitter 2/12/2012 5:40:45 PM
- He's been a huge story for the Rangers. Doesn't seem to be any worse for wear. Caps looking particularily intense to start this one. The pressure is on!
- 18:30 After a slow start, the Rangers have their 1st chance of the game, as the newly inspired Dubinsky forces Neuvirth to make a pad save.
- 17:30 4th line for the Caps can't capitalize on a 2 on 1. No finish by Beagle on a one-time attempt set up by Halpern. He indeed looked like Snoopy on that chance.
- Rangers going to their 1st PP as Bickel was interfered with. Wideman the culpret.
- CAPS PENALTY - WIDEMAN - TRIPPING
- After having only two power-play goals in 49 chances, the Rangers struck for three yesterday against the Flyers; a welcome sign for them. Their NHL rank remains a woeful 27th (13.7%) in the league. The Caps PK ranks 22nd at 80.8%.
- Rangers pp keep it hot boys!by NYRFTW via twitter 2/12/2012 5:45:02 PM
- 15:30 Henrik with a massive save as the Caps look to be the team on the PP here. Perhaps yesterday was an apparition for the Rangers. They look brutal here on the PP.
- 14:10 POST ERSKINE!!
Caps with traffic in front as Henrik saw NONE of that shot. It was deflected off Staal's hip. He can kiss his post for that save. Not sure why the whistle went there. Caps robbed. - 13:30 Semin with a wonderful defensive play (huh??). He prevents a scoring chance for the Rangers on a 3 on 2. Haven't seen that before!
- Nyr pp was terrible
- Looks like they would like to play the Flyers every day. Brutal PP!
- 12:25 Caps really controlling the play early; playing desperate hockey from the start.
- caps are looking good great pk and good pressure in rangers zone #Caps #Capitalsby FrankKatzmarek via twitter 2/12/2012 5:50:19 PM
- Lots of #Capitals fans in the building today. Lots of red clothing, at least.by RothmanHockey via twitter 2/12/2012 5:50:26 PM
- I've been critical of Semin all season (and for good reason). To see him sell out his body like that gives me some hope for this guy after all.
- Semin blocking Shots? Whoa!!!! #CapsMobileApp #Caps #Capitalsby Lowfreq13 via twitter 2/12/2012 5:51:20 PM
- Rangers slow out the gate after back to back
- I hate these back to back games , Nyr needs a day between
- Apparently, the Caps will play four "back to backs" in a row in their upcoming schedule. Not a far trip home for the Rangers at least. BTW, the Rangers are 6-1-1 in the second game of back-to-back sets.
- Seems as though they'd love to be playing them more often!
- 11:00 Semin bolled over by Boyle at center ice. No call. THings getting physical out there at the moment.
- Wow! Impressed with craigs stats!!!
- Just doin' my job, Dan. : )
- Agreed on back to backs...seem to be more of those this year although u have not looked at stats.
