Tune in at 8:30 PM ET as the Panthers take on the Eagles. Rob Sturney will be liveblogging for your enjoyment.
I'm Rob Sturney here with The Score's continuing coverage of the NFL. We've got a game that probably looked more promising at the beginning of the season, but is now what Panthers' receiver Steve Smith calls "The Battle of the Bad". It's 2-8 Carolina at the 3-7 Eagles.
Cam Newton is having a bit of a sophomore slump. I think a lot was expected of him this year, maybe too much.
Philly is hurting. They have lost six in a row. Michael Vick, LeSean McCoy - their two best rushers - receiver Avant and running back Polk are ALL OUT.
Doing all right, thanks. I think these teams are actually well matched and this might be a good game.
The Eagles have a rookie from Arizona as their quarterback. Foles was 21 for 46 with 204 yards, two interceptions and four sacks last week in the loss to the Redskins. The green birds also have a rookie running back from Kansas State by the name of Brown starting. He has 32 attempts for 141 yards this season.
I've heard a lot of people say the Panthers because of the injuries and feeling of doom at Lincoln Financial Field. The over/under is 42.
Yeah, that seems to be the consensus.
Now, the funny thing about these two struggling squads is that they are mediocre at everything!
The Panthers are 17th ranked in passing, 18th in rushing, 17th in pass defense and 20th in rush D.
The Eagles are 15th ranked in passing, 11th in rushing, 13th in pass defense and 18th in rush D.
So, you see, they're not good at anything, but not horrific at anything either. I think it's an intriguing matchup.
Keep you eye on these four defenders for the Panthers: defensive ends Hardy and Johnson, rookie middle linebacker Kuechly and free safety Nakamura.
Yeah, I got the assignment this morning, Bruno and went, "Oh, er . . ." but it might turn out to be fun.
Based on the "Kaep is da man" comments from last night . . . I'm going to say 43.
The Eagles defenders who make a difference: Babin, Ryans, Coleman. Man, will Asomugha ever get it going?
I can tell you one thing: whatever happens to Andy Reid, he'll never hear the term "Dream Team" again without involuntarily wincing.
Okay, so what are the keys here? For Carolina, run the ball, protect possession, don't blow the lead.
The Eagles have got to load the box, run up the gut, make sure someone is neutralizing Kuechley.
It's one of the more interesting stories of the season, really.
The rookie Brown, Lewis, Havili and maybe they'll use Celek as a fullback!
Actually, they use Celek for pass protection more than any other tight end in the league.
By the way, the six losses in a row is the worst streak for Philadelphia since seven straight losses at the end of 1994.
The Eagles have given up 33 sacks this year, 3rd worse in the NFL. Vick has gotten knocked around, and now knocked out.
I can see Foles going to Jackson and Maclin, but they've got to watch the ballhawk DB's on the Panthers.
