Tune in at 1:00 PM ET as South Carolina takes on Michigan. Ryan Kelly will be liveblogging for your enjoyment.
Hello and welcome to theScore's ongoing coverage of NCAA Bowl season. Today we present the Outback Bowl, featuring 10-2 South Carolina taking on 8-4 Michigan.
Raymond James Stadium -- home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- is the host of today's game. The weather forecast looks outstanding -- sunny and 75 degrees.
This is the third all-time meeting between the two schools, but first since 1985. They both hold a victory -- South Carolina with a 17-14 triumph in Ann Arbor in 1980, while Michigan won a 34-3 rout in Columbia in that 1985 meeting.
Connor Shaw will start the game at QB for South Carolina, but early word is that Dylan Thompson will get reps as well.
The game will be the final one in the Michigan career of Denard Robinson. He needs 86 rush yards to break the NCAA record for most rush yards by a QB held by Pat White of West Virginia.
Michigan won the toss and deferred to the second half, so they kick off.
Ellington takes the kick two yards deep in the endzone and runs it out past the 30. A solid return.
1 & 10 SC - Shotgun for the Gamecocks to start and the give goes to Miles, but the Michigan defensive line is there to limit the gain to 1.
SC 2 & 9 - Shaw goes to the air for the first time and completes it to Sanders right near the first down marker.
SC 1 & 10 - Shaw steps up in the pocket and launches it deep and it's CAUGHT FOR THE TOUCHDOWN.
It was Damiere Byrd on the reception, good for 56 yards. Extra point is up and good.
That's probably not the start Brady Hoke was looking for.
It took just 94 seconds for South Carolina to jump out to the early lead.
Drew Dileo catches the kick about 7 yards deep in the end zone and takes a knee. Drive will start for UM at the 25.
UM 1 & 10 - Devin Gardner in the shotgun to start for the Wolverines and he connects with Dileo for a gain of 11.
UM 1 & 10 - Michigan goes no huddle and Gardner's pass for Roundtree is a little behind and it's knocked down.
UM 2 & 10 - Gardner on the QB draw, but SC smells it out right away and Gardner is stripped of the ball but Michigan recovers.
UM 3 & 15 - Gardner rolls the pocket to his right and launches it downfield where it's INTERCEPTED. Jimmy Ligree with the pick, setting South Carolina up around the 35.
@KevAZ No clue. Not sure if the receiver broke off the route or not though.
@KevAZ I'm sure we'll see Denard in on the next series in some way, but Gardner is definitely a more polished passer than Robinson is.
SC 1 & 10 - Shaw flips it out to Nick Jones in the right flat and he's corralled after a minimal gain.
SC 2 & 10 - This time it's flipped to Miles in the left flat but again Michigan holds them to short gain, about two.
SC 3 & 7 - Shaw with an empty backfield and goes deep down the middle looking for Nick Jones, but it bounces short of its intended target.
SC 4 & 7 - The punt is away and a fair catch is called for by Gallin around the 29 of Michigan.
Good defense from Michigan on that series -- even if those two checkdowns made the job a little bit simpler.
Going back to Gardner's interception I think it might have been a situation where if it was picked, no big deal. Kind of like a punt. Punter Will Hagerup is suspended for this game, after all.
UM 1 & 10 - Still no Robinson in the game, but Gardner under center this time. Playfake to Vincent Smith and then the pass is completed for about 12 to Gallin.
UM 1 & 10 - Robinson checks back as the tailback in the information and he gets the carry, bursting through the line for a gain of 15.
@KevAZ Yeah, don't know that they've actually specified at any point though.
UM 1 & 10 - Robinson still in at tailback, Gardner rolls left -- Robinson with a key block -- and flips a jump ball downfield for Gallon, which he wins. Michigan now in the red zone.
UM 1 & 10 - Gardner under a lot of pressure, but it was a screen and the completion goes to Vincent Smith for a gain of 9 or so, but there is a flag on the play.
PENALTY: 15-yard facemask on Michigan. Ball moves back to the 23.
UM 1 & 16 - Robinson back in as tailback and he gets the carry up the middle, picking up 3 or 4.
