Tune in at 8:00 PM ET as Boise State takes on Michigan State. Gino Bottero will be liveblogging for your enjoyment.
Welcome everyone! I'll be live blogging tonight's game between the 13th-ranked Michigan State Spartans and 24th-ranked Boise State Broncos.
Tonight's game is a true home game for Michigan State, with the game being played at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan.
I'm leaning towards the Broncos in this one. Boise State is 6-0 in openers under Chris Petersen, beating Oregon, Virginia Tech, and Georgia in the last three years, all on the road.
Each side will feature a new quarterback tonight. Kirk Cousins led the Spartans to their first bowl victory since 2001 with a triple overtime win over Georgia in the Outback Bowl. Senior Andrew Maxwell will debut tonight for the Spartans in his place. For the Broncos, Kellen Moore finished his college career with a 50-3 record. Fourth-year junior Joe Southwick will begin his career as a starter after three years behind Moore.
I can tell you that they have only been an underdog 7 times since 2006, covering the spread in 6 of those games.
Michigan St. gets back leading rusher Le'Veon Bell who led the team with 987 yards on the ground and 13 TDs. Meanwhile, Doug Martin won't be back for the Broncos. He was a first round selection in the NFL Draft.
This will be Boise State's final year in the Mountain West Conference. They'll be a member of the Big East as of July 1st, 2013.
Marc Dantonio and Chris Petersen shown having a little friendly chat at midfield, but this is a huge game for both programs and you know their friendship will be set aside come kickoff.
Good news for Broncos fans today as Kellen Moore officially made the 53-man roster for the Detroit Lions. He is in attendance tonight.
They're about ready to begin in East Lansing. Boise State will start with the football.
15:00 The game is underway. Michigan State's kick didn't come out of the endzone, so the Broncos will start at their own 25.
14:18 A rough start for the Broncos. An inside handoff lost a yard, then Southwick's second down pass was knocked down at the line of scrimmage.
14:13 Pressure on Southwick on third down and he's forced to throw the ball away.
14:05 Michigan St. returns the punt back to their own 40. Andrew Maxwell and the offense will take over from there.
13:20 Le'Veon Bell looks good on his first tough, taking the handoff and breaking a tackle at the line of scrimmage to gain 3. Then, Maxwell completes a pass to midfield for the first down.
12:49 Le"Veon Bell with a tremendous run, hurdling a defender and gaining 23, down to the Boise State 22.
11:53 A gain of a yard on the give to Bell, then he gets the ball again on a screen and gains 4. 3rd and 5 coming up.
11:15 Maxwell completes a pass along the right sideline to the Boise State 13 for the first down.
10:13 A couple runs for Bell sets up 3rd and 4.
9:35 Maxwell hits his tight end Sims over the middle to convert the third down and set up first and goal on the 3 yard line.
8:17 A couple gives to Bell and he gets the Spartans to the 1 and a half, but can't yet find the endzone.
