Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Score’s liveblog of Game 4 of the ALCS between the Yankees and Tigers!
Mother Nature kept the reeling Yankees alive for another day as Game 4 of the ALCS was rained out last night. No word on whether or not Alex Rodriguez tried to hit on her.
Beautiful afternoon in Detroit - a great day for baseball! Speaking of A-Rod, both he and Curtis Granderson are once again taking a seat on the Yankees bench as the Yankees once again face elimination. Incredible! Here is tonight’s line-up card:
This Afternoon’s Starting Pitchers: CC Sabathia vs. Max Scherzer
Today marks Sabathia’s 18th career playoff start in which he is is 9-4 with a 4.25 ERA. Sabathia be making his second consecutive postseason start in which his team has faced elimination, having gone 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in those starts. Sabathia is undefeated in his six road postseason starts as a Yankee.
As for Scherzer, he is making the sixth appearance (fifth start) of his career during the post-season this afternoon. In his previous five outings, he is 1-1 with a 4.29 ERA.
1st thing I thought of as well. I expect a lot of deep counts (if they can get them) on Scherzer to try and take advantage of that speed when runners get on base.
It's a good point @Tyler. From what I heard today, the decision to sit ARod is not that of the manager.
Wind blowing out to left and we are ready for 1st pitch as Ichiro steps in. Stunnung sky at Comerica.
1st pitch is a fastball that catches the ouitside corner and we are underway! Feel free to contribute throughout the blog everyone!
Ichiro is hitting .297 with a HR and 5 RBI in the postseason. He stays alive at 1-2, fouling away two Scherzer fastballs.
Ichiro seeing a lot of pitches early as he continues to carve away fastballs from Scherzer. 4 in a row now. Great AB for the Yanks to start the game.
-125 last time I checked. Ichiro with a hard faught AB that results in a pop out to 3rd. Looked like he broke his bat. One away for Swisher.
Swisher is back in the line-up for Game 4, hitting a Mendoza-esque .154 with a lone RBI and 8 K’s.
@coro Yankees bats have been simply dormant though. Here's one for you, Yankees pitchers have compiled a 2.25 team ERA this postseason, their lowest mark since 1961. The Yankees have won the World Series in each of the previous 13 seasons they recorded a ERA under 2.50.
That stat speaks VOLUMES about their offense this postseason.
Swisher fouls off the 2-2 to stay alive. Yankees have had a couple of great AB to start this one making Scherzer work.
Swisher goes down swinging....again....for the 2nd out of the inning. Two away for the unbelievably slumping Cano.
