The theme is this year's baseball season - pitching injuries - has certainly continued with the third month of the season coming to a close and the All-Star break looming.

In one woeful day the Yankees lost their staff veterans, Pettitte and Sabathia. CC will be out until shortly after the break with a strained groin, while Andy might very well decide to retire again after breaking his ankle.

It's really be a remarkable year for injuries to pitchers. I can't remember a year where there were this many injuries in such a short period of time.

Going forward the Yankees will have to lean heavily on today's starter, Hiroki Kuroda, as well as on the young Ivan Nova to anchor the staff down the stretch in the AL East.

On the other side of the ball, Jake Peavy - no stranger to injury himself - is looking for his first win in June despite posting an ERA of 2.36 over the month. The Sox have taken the last 2 games in the Bronx, winning last night 14-7.

Konerko dumps a little flare into CF for a single. Dunn moved to third. That was a nice little piece of hitting by Konerko - that's why he's second in BA in the AL.

Yeah, that seems about right to me. Thanks Dave. I wasn't even aware of Meyers or Feliciano. But yes 7 - what a mess! It's remarkable that they are still competing with all those injuries to pitchers no less.

Viciedo goes down on a slider for the first out of the inning. Ramirez follows that up with a quick pop out to Granderson in CF. 2 out here in the 2nd and Kuroda has only thrown 33 pitches.

@Dave L I agree. Kuroda looks great and so does Nova - i actually just picked them both up in my fantasy league. However, I do think the Yankees are in some trouble over the next month or so. It'll partly depend on if CC can come back and be effective, sooner rather than later.

Can just missed a HR to right. It was foul by no more than 3 feet. He's battling in a 1-2 count.
