Hello everyone. As I'm sure everyone knows, DET needs a victory to continue this series. The Tigers have scored only 3 runs in the series, but 2 of these came in the 9th inning of Game 1.
Some of the numbers being batted about by the media: 20 of 23 3-0 series have ended in game 4. The additional 3 ended on game 5. No team has ever pushed a 3-0 series to game 6, yet alone come back to win.
The good news for DET: Max Scherzer has allowed only 1 ER in 11 IP, including 18 strikeouts. But as we all know, DET still needs help scoring runs
Miguel Cabrera has one homer in six at-bats versus Cain while fellow former NL players Prince Fielder and Omar Infante are each 5 for 18.
1st pitch looking to be around 8:10 - 8:12 et
The lineups are being announced in DET. The Tigers want to get through tonight. Verlander is set for game #5.
Temp is 44. Everyone appears to be wrapped up in Winter Jackets.
D and pitching really comes into play in these short series. Remember the weak offense of the White Sox years ago? Same goes for AZ, etc
Scherzer on the hill, 1st pitch FB for strike 1. He'll face Pagan/Scutaro/Sandoval to start things off
Lots of cliches being thrown about for this game: DET needs a hot start, momentum, etc, etc. At the end of the day execution will make or break DET and SF
Pagan chases a crazy 93 MPH fastball with a TON of movement for strike three.1 down, Scutaro at the plate
Shallow pop-up. Jackson comes in, takes over, and makes the grab for out #2. This brings up Sandoval
@Bub - Not off the top of my head. I imagine they have to overcome more obstacles vs a regular size player
Awesome slider with splitter movement, Panda misses it by a foot and strikes out. 2 K for Scherzer (20 in 12 IP this post-season) to end the inning 1-2-3.
People forget that Gwynn used to steal 30+ bags a year during his prime. Good athlete
We're back. Matt Cain on the hill for SF. I imagine he'll pitch count is out the window, 130+ if needed
Jackson/Berry/Cabrera set for DET this inning.
Here we go. Austin Jackson steps in. The cold weather should logically impede fly ball distance. Something to consider with DET HR heavy lineup
Lineout to Scutaro for out #1. Berry at the plate, I wonder if he'll attempt a bunt?
Shows bunt, pulls it back for ball 1. Then hacks on a high fastball for strike 1. 1-1 count
