Tune in at 1:05 PM ET as the Angels take on the Yankees. Matthias Koster will be liveblogging for your enjoyment.
Hello everyone. I'm SOOOO sorry, my internet has been down all day up to this point. Crossing my fingers that it'll hold up the rest of the game
Game update: LAA 6 , NYY 5
It's the top of the 7th. Jered Weaver is on the hill. There are 2 outs in the inning, Russell Martin is at the plate.
Martin is the #9 hitter. Jeter is on deck
Martin flies out to shallow CF. That ends the inning. During the inning Eric Chavez hit a solo HR, cutting the then LAA lead from 6-4 to the current 6-5 score
Jered Weaver is likely done for the day. 3 HR allowed, 10 hits, 5 ER in 7 IP. And he's in line for a win. How about that?
Nova started for NYY. He was a flyball machine, as he had only 5 GB outs to 14 air outs. On the day he allowed (over 5IP) 9 hits, 6 ER, including 3 HR
Qualls took over for him, pitching a scoreless IP.
Weaver receiving fist pumps in the dugout. He's done.
Callaspo leads off the 8th. 1st pitch groundout to the right side. One down, Izturis up
Lineup: Trout, Aybar, Pujols, Morales, Trubmo, Callaspo, Izturis, Bourjos, Wilson
Qualls still on the hill for NYY. He was acquired about a week ago from the Phillies. He's been a closer & set-up man in his past. With NYY he should be a 6th-7th type pitcher. Hard throwing righty with a power sinker. But he does have trouble pitching to lefties
Izturis ends up working a walk
And Bourjos is up. He lays down a bunt attempt. It's in no man's land inbetween the plate & mound. Bourjos beats out a close play at 1st and is safe with an infield single!
Two speedy runners on base for LAA. Izturis on 2nd, Borjous on 1st. Brian Wilson, a light hitting catcher with a sub. 500 OPS is on deck with one out. Trout is on deck
If you have any Q's about this game please ask. While my internet was down, I was watching the game on SportsNet 1 while dealing with Bell/Primus tech support
I'm surprised the Angels aren't pinch hitting for Wilson in this spot. Count is 0-2 to Wilson. NYY infield is in DP depth
Boone Logan is warming in NYY pen
Wild pitch! Izturis advances to third on the play!
It was a sinker. Martin blocked the bounced pitch but could not catch it. Izturis is on third, Bourjos stayed put at 1st base
Single into LF. Izturis scores. Bourjos was running on the pitch and advances to third.
Angels up 7-5 via the Wilson RBI single
Runners on 1st/3rd, only 1 out and Mike Trout coming up.
Trout is 1 for 4 today with a double & run scored. Infield coming in against Trout. Conventional wisdom says this raises a batters average .100 points. I'm sure Sabermetrics has figured out an exact number
But anywho, the infield in gives Trout an advantage.
3-1 count to Trout. I'm not sure that Qualls wants to give him anything to hit
Bourjos scores, the slow running catcher Wilson advances to third. Trout safe with an RBI double.
LAA now up 8-5. And that's it to Qualls, he's getting the hook. NYY bringing in Logan to face the switch hitting Aybar. Pujols is in the hole.
With only 1 out and the LAA bullpen combo of Downs/Frieri (both have ERA's under 1.00), NYY cannot allow any further runs to score
Aybar will bat. He's had a great day in the #2 slot. He's 2 for 3 with 1 BB. He hit a solo HR back in the 1st inning.
Boone Logan coming in. He's a lefty that actual has better numbers vs righties. Aybar will bat from the right side for the 1st time today
Runners on 2nd/3rd, 1 out, Aybar up. Wilson is on 3rd, Trout on 2nd. NYY brings in the infield, in hopes of throwing out a potential run at the plate
D.J. Mitchell, a righty, is warming in NYY pen.
2-0 to Aybar. The Yankees have won the first 2 games of this series. This is the third and final game
Aybar lays down a great bunt. Wilson, running on the pitch via the squeeze, scores on the play. Aybar is out at 1st via the RBI sac bunt
Score is now 9-5. This 4 run lead is going to be tough to overcome. Trout advanced to third, Pujols at the plate
And NYY will give Albert an intentional walk.
There are now Angels on the corners. Two down, Morales coming up
Morales hits a soft liner to Arod for the final out of the inning. But the damage has been done, as LAA score 3 runs to take a commanding 9-5 lead into the bottom 8th
NYY lineup: Jeter, Granderson, Arod, Cano, Teixeira, Swisher, Ibanez, Chavez, Martin
And in the bottom 8th, the top of the order is due starting with Derek Jeter. This is THE inning IMO. NYY need to scratch across at least 1 run with the top of the order to have a chance in the 9th
The extra runs changed the complexion of the game
