Finally a coming out party for the American Clint Dempsey? Having scored 2 goals and provided an assist mid-week versus Guatemala in WCQ, Dempsey is coming back into his own, today playing on the left side. Spurs will be without Assou-Ekotto, Kaboul, Bale and Dembele. Scott Parker continues to be out, probably coming back around Christmas the rumours say.

The side have won 4 on the hop, having scored 21 goals this season. Can't wait.

Chelsea don't have too many changes, other than John Terry serving the first match of his 4-match ban. Everything else seems normal, solid and ready. Torres is currently sitting on 4 goals this season and will once again play the lone striker.

Not much in Spurs' bench today. Adebayor seems a plausible replacement late in the match if Spurs are down a couple of goals. Other than the tall man, not much else stands out. Seems a big worry for AVB today.

Bold statement @henzitek. Mikel has the experience and a bit more toughness, which will be needed today to slow anything Sigurdsson wants to do in the middle of the pitch.

4 min: Clever Oscar's already been pushed about a bit, but he's getting stuck in every chance he has. Well done. A bit from Spurs off a free-kick: Sigurdsson plays the ball into the box for a Gallas touch. Just swipes at it and it's a missed chance.

6 min: Chelsea look to be in control now. Something of a back and forth battle but much of it sits with the Blues. No strong chances yet but the passing is there.

8 min: Hazard and Torres have a nifty one-two to get free into space. The Belgian tries his luck running into the box and looking to the middle with a pass. That's cut out and Spurs try to run off. Nothing doing and Chelsea steal possession. This is a very quick pace right now. A bit more patience needed by Tottenham though going forward; they're losing the ball too easily.

10 min: Friedel's experience has him starting today, especially his experience against Torres. Some quick thinking from the keeper will force Chelsea to be a bit more creative, refusing to take shots from well out. Oscar has a shot just outside the box, but its pulled wide.

@210513613: Not a bad side and yes, seemingly at full strength. The older gents are out of this one with Terry out and Lampard starting on the bench. Its their speed in the middle of the pitch that's convincing me.

12 min: Sandro tries a wild shot from well out. This can't be Tottenham's aim today, especially with Dempsey on the pitch, a man who can run with the best of them.

Bale is with his partner, who is going into labour presumably.
